About the films
"As a filmmaker, I claim absolutely no jurisdiction over the interpretation of history. So 60 years after the catastrophe, it's not my aim to spark identification with and hero worship of the courageous on the one hand, and denigration and horror of the informers on the other. I try to link the retrospection of the witnesses by seeking forms of representation, by editing together the witness stories, fragmented memories of individuals; I don't use any propaganda material, but rather label photos, perpetrator documents, separating the photos of the persecuted and the persecutors. In that sense, I'm biased. That is my form, my means, of rendering and getting close to history."
